The Story Behind the Name
When the halahal poison rose from the churning of the ocean, the three worlds began to burn. Gods fled. Demons fled. Lord Shiva drank the poison himself. Maa Parvati held his throat so it could go no further, and his throat turned blue — he became Neelkanth.
But the burning did not stop. As Shiva grew restless with that fire, the Adi Shakti appeared — not as his consort, but as his mother. In the form of Maa Tara, she took him into her lap as a child and nursed him, and the poison's fire was stilled.
Neel is the one who drinks the poison for others. Tara is the one who carries you across. That is where our name comes from.
समुद्र मंथन से जब हलाहल विष निकला, तो तीनों लोक जलने लगे। देवता भी भागे, असुर भी। तब भगवान शिव ने वह विष स्वयं पी लिया। माता पार्वती ने उनका कंठ पकड़ लिया, विष वहीं रुक गया और गला नीला पड़ गया — वे नीलकंठ कहलाए।
पर विष की जलन शांत नहीं हुई। जब शिव जी उस अग्नि से व्याकुल हुए, तब आदि शक्ति माँ तारा के रूप में प्रकट हुईं — पत्नी बनकर नहीं, माँ बनकर। उन्होंने शिव जी को बालक स्वरूप में गोद में उठाया और स्तनपान कराया, और विष की जलन शांत हो गई।
नील यानी वह शिव जो दूसरों के लिए विष पी लेते हैं। तारा यानी वह शक्ति जो पार लगा देती हैं। यहीं से हमारा नाम बना।

Why Neel Tara Exists
I am Sandeep Singh, founder of Neel Tara.
This is not my profession. By trade I am a goldsmith and a hotelier. Neel Tara is what I do because I care about it — and that may be its greatest strength. There is no pressure here to sell.
For the past 20 years I have studied and practised Tantra, particularly the Das Mahavidya. In those two decades one thing kept repeating itself: people set out to buy with faith, and come home with something fake. Dyed wood sold as Karungali. Plastic beads sold as crystal.
Neel Tara is my answer to that.
मैं संदीप सिंह हूँ, नील तारा का संस्थापक। यह मेरा पेशा नहीं है — मैं पेशे से स्वर्णकार और होटल व्यवसायी हूँ। नील तारा मेरा शौक़ है, और शायद यही इसकी सबसे बड़ी ताक़त है — यहाँ बेचने का दबाव नहीं है।
पिछले 20 साल से मैं तंत्र का अध्ययन और साधना कर रहा हूँ — विशेष रूप से दस महाविद्या की। इन बीस सालों में एक बात बार-बार दिखी: लोग श्रद्धा से खरीदने जाते हैं, और नकली माल लेकर लौटते हैं। रंगी हुई लकड़ी करुंगली के नाम पर। प्लास्टिक के मनके क्रिस्टल के नाम पर।

The reason is simple: this is not my profession. When the number goes up, the depth goes down. I would rather keep the depth.
