The Vel is the divine spear of Lord Murugan (Kartikeya) — the sacred weapon given to Him by Goddess Parvati to destroy evil and ignorance. This Vel is hand-carved from Karungali (Black Ebony), one of the most powerful protective woods in South Indian tradition, revered for absorbing and repelling negative energy.

Why Keep a Karungali Vel at Home

  • Removes negative energy: traditionally kept in the home, shop or puja room to clear nazar, drishti and heavy vibrations
  • Protection shield: the Vel is believed to guard the family from evil eye, black magic and unseen troubles
  • Destroys obstacles: just as Murugan's Vel defeated Surapadman, it is worshipped to cut through problems, delays and fear
  • Courage & confidence: invoked for strength of mind, willpower and victory in difficult situations
  • Peaceful home: helps maintain a calm, positive and harmonious atmosphere in the house
  • Double power of Karungali: black ebony itself is a Shani-related protective wood, making this Vel doubly protective

Where to Keep It

  • In the puja room or mandir, beside the deity
  • At the main entrance of the home to guard the doorway
  • In the shop, office or cash counter for business protection
  • Always place it upright or on a clean cloth — never on the bare floor

How to Worship

  1. Clean the Vel with a soft dry cloth before placing it.
  2. Offer vibhuti, kumkum or flowers on Tuesdays and Fridays, or during Skanda Sashti.
  3. Chant "Om Saravana Bhava" or "Vetri Vel Muruganukku Arohara" 11 or 108 times.
  4. Light a diya or dhoop and offer your prayer with a clear intention.

Care Instructions

Keep away from water, oil and chemicals. Wipe with a soft dry cloth. Do not wash. Store in a clean, dry place. Occasionally apply a light coat of pure oil if the wood looks dry.

Note: Being a hand-carved natural wood product, slight variation in size, colour, grain and finish is normal and a sign of authenticity.
